On Sept. 2, Sony re-released Spider-Man: No Way Home – The More Fun Stuff Version, featuring eleven additional minutes of screen time with stars Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Charlie Cox. The movie is the sixth-highest grossing of all time, and its re-release reached the top of the box office once again, proving that Spider-Man fans believed the extra eleven minutes to be worth another watch.

No Way Home is iconic for including three Spider-Men, as well as villains of past Spider-Man films, such as Green Goblin and Electro. Returning villains force Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, to grasp responsibility and use the assistance of two other Spider-Men from parallel universes.

“The entire theater on opening night kept on cheering throughout the entire movie,” said junior Mia Eliav. “It felt like an experience.”

Spider-Man is a legendary comic character originally created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. In the comic book, Peter Parker is a teenage boy who is bitten by a radioactive spider, giving him enhanced strength and speed, incredible reflexes, healing abilities and the power to crawl walls. Spider-Man broke the superhero archetype and was unexpected for audiences due to his fascination with video games, social awkwardness and stellar academic performance.

On May 3, 2002, Tobey Maguire was the first to play Peter Parker on-screen in the original Spider-Man. Earning $800 million worldwide, the movie was triumphantly approved to become a trilogy. Later, in 2012, Spider-Man was brought back for a reboot with The Amazing Spider-Man, this time starring Andrew Garfield.

With extremely positive reactions from fans in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland received his own movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, in 2017, which reached almost $900 million in gross earnings. Tom Holland also starred in Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, where he deals with grief over the death of Tony Stark while balancing the double life of being a superhero and student. A third movie was immediately secured.

Now, eight movies into the Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home has earned almost two billion dollars and was nominated for Visual Effects at the 2022 Academy Awards.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, has announced that plans for Spider-Man 4 are in the works.
