Girls basketball season preview
The girls basketball team at Calabasas is getting ready for their 2021-22 season as they started with a win against SOCES during their game on Nov 15.
The team made a run into the quarterfinals of the Division 4AA playoffs last spring. The old team was made up of almost all underclassmen, bringing high expectations for this upcoming season.
One promising player is Natali Garcia, a varsity player who has been on the team for three years. She is excited to be back again, especially after an unconventional season last year due to COVID.
“I am so excited to play,” said Garcia. “I think it’s great that we’re able to play this year for a real, full length, season.”
Additionally, Coach Jenna Laolagi hopes to convey her season goals effectively this year. This season, she hopes to win a CIF championship and wants the team to remain connected, committed and injury free.
“If we maintain all those things, we have every opportunity to win,” said Laolagi.
Laolagi acknowledged that the Marmonte League is going to be a tough league. Last year, Westlake High School won the league, and Laolagi is keeping an eye out for Oaks Christian, another strong team.
“We’re really looking to take down Westlake, but Oaks Christian will also be strong,” said Laolagi.
The team has been working on conditioning, learning plays and practicing fundamentals in order to prepare for this season. Their next game is on Nov. 20 against Taft.
