Calabasas beats Santa Monica, 70-62, advances to the quarter finals
On Feb. 15, boys basketball beat Santa Monica, 70-62. This now sets up a Friday night matchup against La Mirada in the quarter-finals.
The Coyotes dominated from the start, as they led 22-9 at the end of the first quarter. Santa Monica slowly chipped back in the second half as the Coyotes only led 31-24 at halftime. Calabasas led by roughly fifteen points midway through the fourth quarter, but Santa Monica employed a full court press. The full court press was not enough as the Coyotes secured the lead with clutch free throws.
Junior Gavin Murphy led the team with twenty-seven points as senior Taylor Golden had a double-double with eleven points and eleven rebounds. Junior Niko Lobos has thirteen points to go along with Peter Gray’s eight rebounds and eight assists. Seniors Drew Martin, Ben Hendelman and Landen Smith all contributed to the Coyotes’ success on both the offensive and defensive end.
Calabasas will go on the road against La Mirada on Feb. 18. Tip-off is at 7:00 PM.
