The crowd watches on as Marissa Rossi takes her place in the line. Staring down the long sand pit, she takes her last breath before she begins to run, ready to set another record for her track and field career. The crowd screams with joy as she races to the finish line in first place.
As a triplet, Rossi has developed a competitive nature which has motivated her on and off the field. She started competing in track and field events her freshman year, and since then she has developed a passion. This year, Rossi has achieved the honor of going to CIF-SS Division 3 and to the Masters meet. At the CIF-SS Division 3 meet Rossi placed second in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.
“I had a goal of getting eight medals this season because last year I got seven and wanted to do better than before,” said Rossi. “I ended up with nineteen this season. Now I have a total of thirty three from all four years combined.”
Rossi has always strived to accomplish great things and succeed in everything she does. She intends on continuing her track and field career in the fall at Cal State University at Northridge. At CSUN she plans on majoring in accounting because she enjoys math.
“CSUN contacted me to join their track team for long jump and triple jump, that is why CSUN is my main option,” said Rossi.
Setting new goals like jumping farther is always a plus for Rossi’s track and field career, but nothing will ever compare to the memories and friends she has made while participating in the sport itself.
