Many teenagers are indifferent toward politics and the changing world around them; Michael Cozzi, however, at only 17 years old, has found his niche in politics. Cozzi has involved himself in several political campaigns and has attended the Republican National Convention, making him the quintessence of a youth in action.
“I think that [politics] truly is my calling in life, and it is what I love to do,” said Cozzi.
In middle school Cozzi first became familiar with politics when he was assigned to watch the 2008 presidential debate. But, he attributes his passion for politics to his grandfather, who worked in the news reporting business and interviewed every president from John F. Kennedy to Bill Clinton.
Even though Cozzi at first resonated with the Democratic Party, his views shifted after taking a United States Government course at American University in Washington, D.C. when he was 16 years old.
“It is fascinating how your views can change over the years,” said Cozzi.
Shortly after taking the summer course, Cozzi was invited by a representative of the California Delegation, along with 18 other youth delegates from the nation, to the Republican National Convention. During the three-day convention, Cozzi assisted the VIP delegates and watched the conferences.
Cozzi will be attending the Catholic University of America in the fall, where he will double major in Political Science and Philosophy.
