Fans decorated in all shades of green roar with excitement as senior Matt Guttridge takes the field for Stetson University’s first ever football game. Through tremendous amounts of perseverance and dedication, Guttridge has earned a well-deserved spot on Stetson’s National College Athletic Association Division 1 football team.
Guttridge’s football journey has endured 10 seasons. Doubling as CHS’s wide receiver and strong safety, Guttridge has truly grown as a player and has left his heart on the field after each game.
“I feel very fortunate and blessed to be given the opportunity to continue to play football,” said Guttridge. “It is rewarding to be among a select number of athletes that have a chance to pursue their passions for another four years.”
Located in DeLand, Florida, Stetson has been void of football for many decades, when the school terminated its football team in 1956. August 2013 will mark Stetson’s first season in over 50 years. Not only will Guttridge leave a mark on CHS but he will also take part in history with the return of football to Stetson.
Guttridge’s love for football extends far beyond the field. He hopes to one day become a football coach. Guttridge already finds inspiration in assisting his fellow teammates as well as future Coyotes.
With the undeniable talent he has brought to the CHS field and Calabasas community, Guttridge is sure to impress his fellow Hatters in the next four years.
