With a simple snap of her camera’s shutter lens, Morgan Lieberman takes a single moment and transforms it into a piece of art. The artist allows spontaneity to govern her craft, as candid photos and spur-of-the moment shots are what she prefers most.
“I would describe my photos as being very unpredictable,” said Lieberman. “In my photos I capture whatever comes my way and let the picture tell the story.”
Although Lieberman has a great deal of natural talent, she attributes much of her skill to CHS. After taking Photo 1, Photo 2 and yearbook, Lieberman began working at the Acorn. Since last summer, Lieberman has shot over 100 events. Recently, she won a Second Place Feature Photo Award in the 2012 Better Newspapers Contest. The award winning photo depicted a young girl with a butterfly resting on her face after the release of 500 butterflies at the Hospice Memorial in Westlake. Lieberman believes that it was the photo’s emphasis of simplicity that won the hearts of the contest judges.
“Working at the Acorn was a blessing in disguise,” said Lieberman. “I cannot imagine a better job for a teenager or anyone that loves meeting new people, exploring new cities, and capturing moments.”
Lieberman will attend the University of Missouri in the fall where she will major in journalism with a minor in photojournalism or business. Wherever life may take her, photography will always remain a driving force in Lieberman’s life.
