From working part time at The Guitar Merchant to self-producing and recording an album in his bedroom studio, sophomore Sterling Bauer is taking every step necessary to succeed in the music industry. After two years as the head guitarist in his band Listening Young, Bauer is now confident enough in his musical abilities to branch off from his band to become a solo artist.
Looking for a chance to share his original songs, Bauer plays shows at the Viper Room and The House of Blues in Hollywood and performs at an “Open Mic” once a week at The Guitar Merchant.
“When I am on stage, it feels like it is right then and there my obligation to transform the audience into the same state of mind I had when writing the song or what artists had portrayed when I am covering their song,” said Bauer.
In addition to singing, writing songs, producing music and playing guitar, Bauer also plays the piano. Artists such as Ed Sheeran, The Black Keys and John Mayer inspire Bauer to work his way to the top of the music scene. Movies and literature also influence Bauer’s artistic side. When he sees a piece of art, it inspires him to make songs based on how they make him feel.
“I want people to be touched and moved by the music I write regarding my life experiences,” said Bauer. “[People] will listen to it and feel that it directly relates to them as well.”
In the future, Bauer desires to share his love for indie folk music by performing across the nation and continue staying spiritual and humbled despite his experiences. Bauer hopes to soon share his self-produced album and work with record labels. With intense passion for the music industry, Bauer believes that he has the drive that it takes to make it in the music industry as a solo singer and inspire the rest of the world with his songs.
