Hailing from a small village in Fribourg, Switzerland, junior Clémence Oriol is a new member of the CHS community for the 2013-2014 school year. Although there are considerable differences between Fribourg and Calabasas, Oriol is making her stay in the United States as memorable as possible with her positive and excited outlook.
“My school in Switzerland only has around 1,500 students and is only two buildings,” said Oriol. “Everything in Switzerland is [much] more tiny and together.”
Despite the difficulties that some may face when coming to a new school from a different country, Oriol has had a fairly smooth transition. Her host family has welcomed her graciously and has made her happy that she chose to embark on this foreign exchange program. With a love for running, skateboarding, horseback riding, music and cooking, Oriol has the same hobbies as many CHS students.
“The relationship with people [at Calabasas] is so different,” said Oriol. “People here are so friendly and very welcoming.”
Oriol is very excited to improve her English and learn more about American culture during her trip abroad. She is hoping to mature more as a person through this experience and meet many new people along the way.
