West Side Story
If you are not a lucky Coachella-goer this year, do not worry, this does not mean you are doomed to a tragic weekend alone torturing yourself with constant Twitter and Instagram updates from your friends at the annual music festival.
During weekend two of Coachella, April 20-21, the theater program will be showcasing this semester’s production, West Side Story, a tale of star-crossed lovers from the Upper West Side of New York City during the 1950s, in the new Performing Arts Education Center. With its romantic Shakespeare-inspired plot, lively choreography and dazzling cast, the play is sure to capture the hearts of the audiences. The cast has trained vigorously in all aspects, acting, singing and dancing, to ensure an unforgettable performance. Dance Team teacher, Kirsten Furino, is choreographing the show. Attending the Performing Arts Education Center’s first live musical will go done in CHS history, and this is something one will not have the opportunity to enjoy at Coachella.
Jurassic Park in IMAX 3D
For all of you 90s kids out there who remember screaming in terror while watching Jurassic Park on VHS, you have the chance to relive the experience in 3-D. During the first weekend of Coachella, April 12-14, Jurassic Park will be re-released nationwide in IMAX 3D. This is the ideal alterative to being out in the scorching sun at Coachella. A classy dinner and action-packed movie can be turned into a fun family outing or an entertaining night at the movies with friends. This night is sure to be a blast from the past, so instead of sulking at home, head to an IMAX theater near you and participate in an adventure that is 65 million years in the making.
Beach Bonfire
Although summer is three months away, going to the beach to enjoy the warm sand, cool breeze and ocean is always in season in Southern California. Rather than rocking out to a live musical performance, you can have fun in the sun with some friends, not to mention get a great tan as well. Also, at certain beaches, such as Laguna, Huntington State and Crystal Cove, beach bonfires decorate the shores and allow for a nighttime party that can last from dusk until dawn.
Even though you are not attending Coachella this year there is still hope for an entertainment filled weekend. Time spent with family and friends going to see West Side Story, watching Jurassic Park in 3D or having some fun in the sun at the beach is another way to make unforgettable memories this 2013.
