The Calabasas High School baseball team came up short in a competitive matchup against Thousand Oaks, falling 7–5 in a hard-fought game that showcased both offensive flashes and pitching depth.
Calabasas started with strong energy, keeping pace with Thousand Oaks early and putting pressure on their defense throughout the game. Despite the loss, the Coyotes showed resilience at the plate, with multiple players keeping the offense in rhythm.
Beck went 1-for-4, while Kingston added a hit and scored a run. Rosenfeld had a strong performance, going 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. Chang also contributed offensively, helping Calabasas apply pressure during key moments of the game.
On the mound, Odman delivered a solid outing, pitching five innings while allowing just three hits and one run, along with three strikeouts. Szymanski came in for relief and struck out six batters over two innings, but Thousand Oaks capitalized late with timely hitting to pull ahead.
Despite the loss, the Coyotes remained competitive throughout and showed flashes of strong team play on both sides of the ball.
After the game, senior Matthew Mechanick shared his thoughts, emphasizing both the team’s effort and what needs to improve moving forward.
“We stayed in it the whole game,” Mechanick said. “It just came down to a few key moments that didn’t go our way. Against a team like that, you can’t give up those opportunities.”
He also pointed out that the team still feels confident heading into the next game of the series. This next game of the series is a huge one, with major playoff implications.
“I think we proved we can compete with them,” he said. “We had good energy, good at-bats, and our pitching kept us in it. We just need to be more consistent late in the game.”
Looking ahead, Mechanick emphasized a simple approach for bouncing back.
“We’re not overthinking it,” he said. “Just come out, play our game, and execute. If we do that, we’ll be fine.”
The loss brings Calabasas to 9–3 overall and 1–1 in league play, setting up a decisive third game in the series against Thousand Oaks. With both teams splitting the first two matchups, the rubber game will determine the series winner.
Calabasas will look to build on its offensive consistency and tighten up defensively as it prepares for the next matchup. With strong pitching and a capable lineup, the Coyotes remain in a solid position heading into the final game.
