Although applying makeup may not be encompassed into every high school girl’s daily beauty routine, in order to look truly spectacular for the dance, makeup is essential.
Whether you choose to go with a bolder, more colorful disco vibe or a soft, feminine French look, this step by step guide will ensure that you will look stunning for this year’s Le Disco Vice.
1. Face
Before beginning the application of any makeup, be sure to cleanse and moisturize your face. Use a mineral-based foundation and powder to prevent your pores from getting clogged with sweat or makeup as the night wears on. Next, apply a light coat of matte bronzer around the edges of your face, under the cheekbones and around your nose so that even if you don’t have the ideal tan, you can still achieve a sun-kissed look.
Bold & Beautiful: Use a bright rose with a touch of glitter on the apples of your cheeks so your smile really pops.
Soft & Sultry: Apply a light ivory or pale pink blush for a feminine complexion.
2. Eyes
Your eyes are the centerpiece to your whole look, so you need to make sure that your eye makeup will last through a night full of dancing. To prep your eyes, apply a layer of liquid foundation on your eyelids; this will keep the sweat and oil from your skin from ruining your makeup. For either look, apply black eyeliner.
Bold & Beautiful: Do a dramatic cat eye in black or do a classic smoky eye with a pop of neon shadow to match your ensemble. Dust the area around your eyes with glitter.
Soft & Sultry: Use a light colored shadow, such as blue, lavender, pink, gold or snowy white and top it off with a swipe of shimmery glitter. For a more dramatic look, line the upper lash line with black eyeliner.
To finish off your eyes, apply two coats of volumizing mascara.
3. Lips
Before you apply any lip color, take an old toothbrush, dampen the bristles and make circular motions over your lips to exfoliate and soften the skin. Put on a slick of lip balm to keep them nice and moisturized. Bold & Beautiful: Glossy lips were all the rage in the 70s. Use a neutral lip color like nude or peach then apply a thick coat of lip gloss to create a liquid look.
Soft & Sultry: A pale pink or deep red is ideal, but if you’re feeling a little daring, try a deep violet or plum shade. Blot lips with a tissue so your color doesn’t look fake. Repeat the process of applying color and blotting it until you are satisfied.
