Q: My parents are always telling me not to give in to peer pressure and not to follow the crowd. If I hear them say “If one of your friends jumped off a bridge would you jump too?” one more time, I am going to scream! Isn’t it OK to go along with your friends some of the time?
– Parent Pressure or Peer Pressure?
A: Whether or not to go along with your friends is really a question of circumstance. While the problem of peer pressure is a common one, it’s all about what you are comfortable doing. Sometimes it’s healthy to follow the crowd! (As long as it’s not something that could potentially put you at risk or looks like a scene out of “Project X”) Just be smart about all of your decisions. If you are faced with peer pressure, try finding a friend with a similar outlook on the situation as you and “buddy up” so it’s easier to really say “NO.” It’s YOUR life so YOUR opinions come first. Stand up for yourself and in the end you’ll find you’ve made the right decision.
