The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society-although oddly named-is a charming story of unlikely friendships and resourcefulness during times of hardship told through the captivating letters exchanged among friends in post World War Europe. After a young and energetic London writer is contacted by the literature-hungry residents of Guernsey, she learns the stories of all of the members of the Literary and Potato Peel Society, who banded together to smuggle resources past the brutal German soldiers during the German occupation, all while finding creative ways to entertain themselves. The individual stories, while intertwined, are quirky and as different as can be. Each member has an extremely different personality and point of view, creating a well-rounded and colorful cast of characters to captivate all audiences. With each letter, the reader learns a lesson in love, friendship, heartbreak and action, exemplified through the thoughts and experiences of the characters.
