The City of Bones builds a supernatural fantasy world

The first book of The Mortal Instruments series, The City of Bones, can be described as nothing other than spectacular. Previous readers have told me that I would either love it or hate it, but for me, there was no other choice but to love it. The story line was action-packed and filled with intensity, including the scenes with our daring leading lady, Clary. She truly is the definition of a heroine. Her flaming red hair matches her personality as a driven shadowhunter, keeping the world safe from demons. Along the way Clary has picked up some useful butt-kicking skills, which will eventually help her on her quest to find and protect the Mortal Cup, which in the wrong hands, can destroy all the Downworlders, including werewolves, witches and fairies.

As for all the romantics out there, you will love the sparks between Clary and Jace, her fellow shadowhunter and love interest. Loyal fans cannot forget their memorable first kiss as Clary bumped into Jace, and fell into his arms. It is enough to make any girl swoon. Their chemistry is undeniable and will have everyone cheering for them to make it until the end.
Although many people refuse to continue reading the series after the first book due to its shocking and epic ending, I urge you all to give this series a shot. I, too, was left dumfounded and laying in the fetal position crying and wondering to myself, “Why? Why would you do this to me Cassandra Clare?”
The City of Bones by Cassandra Clare is a marvel wrapped up in action, complete with a sprinkle of romance and a hint of drama that has had fans raving for years. The City of Bones is a bone-afide read everyone should have on his or her bookshelves.
