For the spring semester, CHS English is offering a series of grade incentives tied to strong performance on next week’s CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) English test. In some cases, strong performance on the exam will result in a letter grade increase.

According to the table above, juniors may receive a 2% grade bump for meeting each standard correlating to their current grade in the class. For students who currently have an F or a D, scoring a 3 or 4 would bump them up a letter grade. For students with a B, a score of a 3 would result in a 2% bump, but to receive an A, the student must earn a 4. This means if a student has a B+ and earns a 3, they will not receive a 2% grade bump to bring them to an A.

Since freshmen and sophomore students are testing on the same standards as juniors, their grade incentives are slightly different. For all class grades, if students meet the standard, they will earn a 2% grade bump, and D and F students will be boosted up a letter grade.
The grade bump will only apply to students’ second semester grades. For freshmen and sophomores, the grade changes will go into effect when grades are finalized in June. Juniors will receive their scores after the school year ends, and eligible juniors must apply for the grade change before Friday, September 11.
