In addition to the English grade incentives that reward performance on this week’s CAASPP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) tests, the math department collectively agreed on some incentives for the tests as of late Wednesday.

According to the table above, juniors can earn a 2% grade increase for meeting each standard that applies to their current grade in the class. For students who currently have an F or a D, scoring a 3 or 4 would raise their grade a letter. Students with a B and receive a score of 3 could result in a single grade bump. However, for a student with a B+ to move up to an A-, they must earn a score of 4. If a student with a B+ earns a 3, they will not receive the 2% increase needed to reach an A-.

Freshman and sophomores are tested at the same standards juniors are, however their grade incentives slightly differ. If they meet the standard, students at any grade level can earn a 2% increase in their class grade, while students with a D or F will move up one letter grade. For students with a B or C in a math class and receive a standard met or exceeded qualify for a 2% grade bump. A student must receive a standard exceeded on the math portion of the CAASPP to be eligible for a 2% increase.
The Math and English departments agreed that these grade increases will only apply to students’ second-semester grades. For freshmen and sophomores, the adjustments will take effect once final grades are completed in June. Juniors will receive their scores after the school year ends, and those who qualify must apply for the grade change by Friday, September 11.
