Calabasas High School is renowned for having strong academics and a great Advanced Placement (AP) program. AP classes give students a firsthand opportunity to take college-level courses while remaining in high school, earn college credit, and challenge themselves with harder classes. In the past few years, Calabasas High has significantly increased the number of AP classes offered and has also introduced new courses that allow students to test themselves in more advanced classes, potentially leading to new interests.
AP classes are prestigious courses created by the College Board. At the end of each year, the AP exam is held in the first two weeks of May. The test content can vary depending on what was covered in class; typically, AP exams include multiple-choice questions (MCQs), long-essay questions (LEQs), and document-based questions (DBQs).
AP Cyber Security is a new class that will be added to the 2026-2027 course catalog at Calabasas High, giving students more opportunities to explore their academic interests. AP Classroom states, “AP Cybersecurity offers students the opportunity to earn an employer-endorsed credential in the cybersecurity field.”
According to College Board, “Students explore defense-in-depth strategies and learn to address specific vulnerabilities, attacks, mitigations, and detection measures across a variety of domains, including physical spaces, computer networks, devices, applications, and data.”
The College Board website also explains the course skills that are critical to a deep understanding and application of cybersecurity.
Throughout the course, students are expected to develop the following skills.

The exam is weighted based on the performance of skills, shown in the following table.

CHS Junior, Hannah Bibbian, shared her thoughts on the new class.
“I’m excited to learn more about what the class offers. I think it is a really great opportunity that hasn’t been offered here,” said Bibbian.
Another CHS Junior, Kaiya Polacheck, shared her knowledge of the class so far.
“I don’t really know a lot about the class, but it sounds really cool. For someone who’s interested in cybersecurity, I think they should definitely take the class,” said Polacheck.
Administration has not announced who will be teaching the class for the following school year.
