The CHS Spring Dance Concert was a three-day dance show from April 30th to May 2nd, performed by Calabasas High School’s Dance I, II, III, and Dance Team. The show consisted of various styles as well as group dances, duets, and senior solos.
Dance I was on stage both Thursday and Friday, and had the same set list aside from their last dances. The period two class danced to Upside Down by Diana Ross while the period four class danced to Diva by Beyoncé.
Kayla Teruel, a dance one student and sophomore at CHS, shared her thoughts on the dance performance and the preparation that went into it.
“Each level definitely worked really hard and executed really well for each show. It was the perfect amount of chaos and fun-ness,” Teruel said.
There were a total of 41 dances throughout both nights, performed by all classes, including the finale, duets, and solos. The Saturday performance did not include dance one, but had more solos and duets as it was the seniors’ last show.
Dance II performed all three days, starting with a compilation of Mamma Mia songs and dances, and ending with their Hip-Hop dance, which consisted of Missy Elliot’s top songs Work It and Get Ur Freak On.
The dance program had been preparing for this last concert for many weeks, putting in hard work and effort to make it memorable.
Hannah Rocca, a sophomore on Dance II said, “We all had a lot of fun working and practicing on each and every dance so the show could run smoothly.”
During the Friday show, there was a performance by a group of students from A.C. Stelle Middle School. The CHS Dance program worked with them to build their own dance and perform it on stage for the audience. Many of the students are aspiring dancers who are looking to join Calabasas High’s dance curriculum.
The Spring Dance Concert had many different styles of dances, ranging from Hip-Hop to Contemporary. The duets and solos conveyed lots of emotion, such as sadness, letting go, opposite styles, and more.
The theme of the show was Legacy, which many dancers loved since it reflected the past dancers and the seniors who would be leaving. Videos of past performances were shown, as well as videos from graduates of Calabasas High School who were in the dance program.
The seniors had lots of support from the audience as well as their fellow dancers. Regarding the last show of the year, Teruel added, “This year’s Dance Team is incredible. The seniors that are leaving are so good, and I think we ended on a pretty strong note.”
The Calabasas High School’s Spring Dance Concert was full of meaning and love from both dancers and dance teachers, who both dedicated countless hours toward success. They had lots of support both on and off campus, and all of the dances were incredible.
