Calabasas High School’s theatre program has received major recognition this year, earning seven nominations for the highly regarded Jerry Herman Awards, winning two awards in Best Costume Design and Best Ensemble or Chorus. These wins highlight the talent, dedication, and creativity of CHS students and staff, placing the program among the highest-regarded high school theatre productions in Los Angeles. The awards CHS was nominated for consist of Best Lead Actress, Best Lead Actor, No Small Parts, Best Production, Best Ensemble or Chorus, Best Costume Design, and Best Orchestra.

The Jerry Herman awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre across the area, nominating CHS students and staff for performance, direction, and production. This year, Calabasas High’s production of Seussical the Musical stood out for its strong performances and high production quality.

Students involved in the show spent months rehearsing, a testament to their commitment to theatre and love of the arts.

“Being nominated is a very awesome opportunity and the ability to work with some amazing people. It’s very rewarding from all the hard work we did, and I’m so grateful for all the nominations we’ve received,” said CHS Senior Sean Taylor, Best Lead Actress nominee.
CHS Junior Dolly O’Connell, who was nominated for No Small Part, explains her excitement about being in the running for the award.

“Being nominated for a Jerry Herman award is so surreal, and it’s amazing to feel recognized. This award makes the hard work worth it, and I couldn’t have done anything without the rest of the cast and crew,” said O’Connell.

CHS Principal Bennett Wutkee said, “This is a tremendous accomplishment and a tribute to all the cast, crew, technical directors, and teachers who made the show such a success!”

This recognition is a culmination of the hard work and outstanding performances from CHS students and staff. Both CHS staff and students are excited about these amazing nominations.
