The Commons at Calabasas

On Mar. 25, the La La Land Kind Café opened at the Commons at Calabasas, offering 50% discounts for its first week in business. Focusing on kindness and drinks that are as aesthetically pleasing as they are delicious, the café has attracted a huge number of CHS students with a variety of relatively reasonably priced food and drinks.

Many students have flocked to the café because of its superior service and quality to comparable restaurants.

“My go-to was Starbucks, since it’s convenient,” said junior Mia Eliav. “When La La Land opened, I was convinced to switch. My regular matcha drink is incomparable [in quality] from Starbucks to La La Land. The food from Starbucks doesn’t have many options too, so it’s just getting repetitive, unlike the healthier options at the new café.”

La La Land offers an online app so customers can pre-order and pick-up drinks with little to no waiting time. With many options on the menu, ranging from sweet to savory, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

“My family and I have a hard time choosing where to eat breakfast since we all have different tastes,” said junior Anahit Avetisyan. “We tried the new café, and we had no complaints. I tried the La La Avocado Toast, chocolate chip cookies, classic chia seed pudding, Lavender Bloom Latte, lemonade and even hot chocolate […] Everything was really good.”

The pleasant ambiance of the café only adds to its appeal. La La Land also provides sustainable cups to take home for further use.

“I’m obsessed with the entirety of La La Land,” said freshman Ella Meyers. “The foam on the coffee was my favorite aspect of the La La Latte itself. And I love how the cup is sustainable to reuse. After I sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance of the Commons, I got to […] take [the] home with me to reuse. Not all of the [cups] at the café are reusable, though. The cup has the message to always ‘be kind,’ something more businesses should promote.”
