As we enter the new year, we are looking forward to the up and coming films to entertain us during 2024. With so many new movies coming out this year, ranging from light hearted cartoons to horror films to musicals, here are ten of the most promising new releases:
1. Inside Out 2
The perfect sequel to your favorite childhood film. Riley, all grown up now, walks us through her teenage years, and the numerous new emotions she develops. See this in theaters on June 14, 2024, starring Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader.
2. Mean Girls
Remember the classic middle school must watch? Well now, a modern musical version takes theaters with those same plastics. Some iconic actors such as Renee Rap and Christopher Briney from The Summer I turned Pretty star in this new movie released on January 12, 2024.
3. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
The Ghostbusters franchise has created timeless Halloween films. Look out for yet another sequel. The gang is back in New York City, and must bust all the ghosts and protect the city from a second ice age! If you like fantasies and ghost stories, go watch this movie on March 29, 2024.
4. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
The action-packed Godzilla vs. Kong is returning with another showdown! The two mythical creatures are battling again, and this time it poses a serious threat to humanity. Soon to be released on April 12, 2024.
5. Dune: Part Two
Calling all Sci/Fi lovers! This sequel focuses on the struggle between following your heart and the future of existence, starring Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh. The movie is said to come out on March 1, 2024, and will transport you far into the future.
6. Despicable Me 4
On July 3, 2024, get ready for a part 2 to your favorite minions tik tok trend. They are back and Gru will be faced with another villain to battle. This movie starring Steve Carell, Kristin Wiig and Miranda Cosgrove is definitely something to add to your 2024 must see list.
7. Terrifier 3
Into horror movies? Art the clown is back and is going to reign terror once again on the citizens of Miles County, this time on Christmas Eve. Next halloween season will be one to remember when this drops in theaters on October 25, 2024.
8. Wicked: Part One
This live action adaptation of the famous musical, Wicked, features the same characters that were featured in the broadway musical, with the same amazing storyline! This movie will feature Ariana Grande, Ethan Slater, and Cynthia Erivo and can be seen on November 27, 2024.
9. Beetlejuice 2
Another musical adaptation for all theater lovers! This Halloween classic features familiar stars such as Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Monica Belluci and Jenna Ortega, and is coming to theaters on September 6, 2024. See what Beetlejuice has been up to for 35 years and what he is plotting next!
10. Joker: Folie à Deux
Yet another sequel joining theaters on October 4, 2024! Starring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, this is set out to follow the 2019 Joker film, but this time Gaga is playing Harley Quinn. It will for sure be a crowd favorite and leave rave reviews.
