Whether you want sunrise hikes, to see celebrities, or the perfect Instagram photo, Los Angeles has something for everyone. LA is filled with beaches, street art, shopping, and here is a list of things you shouldn’t miss while visiting.
Melrose Trading Post:
The Melrose Trading Post is a popular outdoor flea market filled with stands selling all sorts of things. It is held every Sunday, 10:00am to 5:00pm, at Fairfax High School. It costs $6 per person to enter, but kids under twelve are free. There is a lineup of vintage fashion, jewelry, antiques—just like thrift stores. Not only can people shop, they can walk around while listening to live music and enjoy the various food trucks. The environment reflects community spirit and LA’s creative side.
A sophomore from CHS, Megan Knudsen said, “I love LA, I go to the beach, I like to go thrift shopping, and I love the malls.”
The Pink Wall:
Many people may have been scrolling on Instagram or Pinterest and came across a picture of a vibrant pink wall. Well, that wall is located on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. People love it because it’s a bubble-gum pink background, perfect for photos. Thousands of people have uploaded their posts to social media, using the hashtag, #pinkwall. The wall has turned into a city landmark that tourists tend to visit.
The Grove:
The Grove is one of LA’s most popular outdoor malls. It consists of shops like Alo, Aritzia, Brandy Melvilie, etc. As well as restaurants such as The Cheesecake Factory, Chill Since ‘93, and Marmalade Cafe. It also has a farmers market with food stands and different types of markets. It’s designed to reflect a charming village with entertainment, food places, and a great hangout spot for families and friends.
A freshman from CHS, Becca Covert said, “I love LA. I like going shopping on Rodeo, going to concerts, and going to football games, it’s so much fun.”
Griffith Park Hikes:
A fun and free activity to do in LA is the Griffith Park hike located Northeast of Hollywood. The hike is about two to three miles and the difficulty is easy to moderate. It consists of paved dirt paths and a few steep spots. The trail leads to a great view of the Hollywood Sign, the Griffith Observatory, and captures downtown LA. It’s best to go in the morning for fewer crowds or at sunset to take photos.
LA has so many activities and attractions to choose from. Whether someone has lived there for years or a tourist is visiting, the city always has new things to offer.
