The final season of The Boys has just launched. The first two episodes were released April 8th and the rest of the episodes will come every week. After almost two years the show is back in action one last time and fans’ memories may be a bit hazy, so here is a recap of things that viewers will need to know for this upcoming season.
Homelander is put on trial for killing a civilian and turns it into a power move, leaning into his fanbase and becoming even more unhinged while trying to shape Ryan into his image. Meanwhile Butcher finds out he’s dying from Temp V and starts seeing hallucinations of Becca, which pushes him to make riskier decisions as he secretly plots to take down supes for good. The team investigates a Supe virus that could actually kill superheroes, which becomes a huge moral dilemma about whether they should use it or not. Hughie Campbell deals with his dad’s declining health and struggles with the idea of using Compound V to save him.
At the same time, Starlight builds her own movement outside of Vought, and Victoria Neuman gets closer to becoming vice president while secretly being one of the most dangerous supes alive. New characters like Sister Sage and Firecracker shake things up inside the Seven, add to the chaos, and eventually alliances are broken, the virus is still out there, Ryan is drifting closer to Homelander, and everything feels like it’s heading toward an all-out collapse.
At the very end of the season Victoria Neuman is killed by Butcher who now has superpowers due to his intake of compound V. To top it all off it’s revealed that Soldier Boy is alive, contained in a cryogenic chamber.
Calabasas Senior, Konrad Leichner had a hot take on Season 5.
“I think Starlight will sacrifice herself for Hughie,” said Leichner.
Leichner’s prediction makes a lot of sense, especially after seeing the first episodes. The virus is dangerous and Starlight might risk her life, if it kills Homelander Hughie has been saved by Starlight many times which might foreshadow Starlight’s death to save Hughie.
The first episode of Season 5 opens with Homelander fully cementing his control over America during a Vought shareholder-style rally, where he’s basically being worshipped like a dictator. At the same time, the remaining members of The Boys are scattered and being hunted, stuck in a brutal “Freedom Camp” system run by supes and the government.Starlight manages to sneak into a major Vought event and exposes Homelander’s past actions—especially the Flight 37 massacre video—but instead of taking him down, it’s twisted and dismissed as fake propaganda, showing how far his control over public perception has gone.
Meanwhile, Butcher is operating on borrowed time and is becoming more unstable and dangerous, willing to cross lines even his team disagrees with, just to end Homelander for good. The team eventually launches a rescue attempt for Hughie, Frenchie, and Mother’s Milk, which spirals into chaos when Homelander intervenes directly. One of the biggest turning points is A-Train stepping up in a major way, finally choosing to fight against Homelander instead of running from him. His actions become a turning point in the escape attempt, and it ends with a major sacrifice that shakes the entire group.
Episode 2 of The Boys Season 5 centers on the Boys testing a dangerous new supe-killing virus. After Vought twists A-Train’s death to benefit Homelander, Butcher leads the team to target the reckless influencer group Teenage Kix as a test run. The plan quickly falls apart when Soldier Boy is sent after them, leading to a chaotic fight inside the Kix base. Frenchie releases the virus, killing multiple supes and seemingly taking down Soldier Boy too. But in the final moment, Soldier Boy wakes up—revealing the virus isn’t reliable and may not work on the strongest supes, raising the stakes moving forward.
Calabasas High School students share their thoughts about the rest of the season. Calabasas senior and avid viewer of The Boys, Alec Oleesky thinks, “Hughie will get superpowers and team up with Butcher and Ryan (Homelander’s son) to kill Homelander.”
Calabasas senior Tristan Cardoso made a prediction about his favorite character, Starlight.
“I think she will end up surviving and saving the world from Homelander’s evil plans,” Cardoso said.
The finale of The Boys premieres May 20th and has the title “Blood and Bone.” The title alone is nerve-racking for fans’ favorite characters. With a main character’s death like A-Train, there’s no doubt viewers should expect at least two or more major deaths by the end of the series.
