CSU approves drop of SAT and ACT requirement
On Mar. 23, the California State University (CSU) system approved a board resolution to permanently drop the SAT and ACT from admissions decisions. The resolution, issued Jan. 26 by the Committee on Educational Policy, was previously covered by the Courier.
The original resolution was recommended by the CSU Admission Advisory Council on the basis of challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns regarding the equity of standardized tests. The final decision amends Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations.
“This decision aligns with the California State University’s continued efforts to level the playing field and provide greater access to a high-quality college degree for students from all backgrounds,” said CSU Acting Chancellor Steve Relyea in a press release.
General CSU applications also do not include personal essay questions or an extracurriculars section, relying on GPA and high school coursework.
