The New Year ushers in exciting new changes into all aspects of life; new clothing trends, new movies and, this year, a new music genre. Starting off in Europe and Australia, ‘Nu Disco’ has finally come to the United States. The new genre is inspired by our old friend Disco -hence the genre name- as well as electro and European dance music, mixed in with a splash of modern techno. While listening to Nu Disco, it is quite difficult to escape the urge of throwing on my funkiest flare jeans and breaking out into the Shuffle. The beat is quick and usually has a high energy level to it, unlike the slightly depressing drones of Dub Step (no offense to the lovers of D-Step). The musicians currently following the Nu Disco trend include Aeroplane, Cut//Copy, Breakbot,James Murphy, and Justice (who will be playing at Coachella Music Festival 2012), and Daft Punk. So I suggest to all of you readers to check out this new genre, because you never know: it may become you new favorite.
