As the school year continues, many students are already thinking about what they want to do after high school. Seniors are making final decisions about college or work, but even underclassmen are starting to consider what comes next.
For many students, college is the main goal, even if they are still figuring out where they want to go and for what. Senior Ellie Tzour says she plans on going to college after graduation, but hasn’t decided on a school yet.
“I know I want to go to college, but I’m still deciding where I’ll end up,” Tzour said. “I’m waiting to hear back from schools and trying to see what feels like the best fit for me.”
She’s excited for the independence and new experiences that come with college, but admits that between applications, decisions, and planning for the future, the process can feel overwhelming at times.
Other students are considering alternatives, including community college or going straight into the workforce. Junior Sienna Venger says she’s still exploring what her plans might look like after she graduates.
“I’m thinking about either going to community college first or applying to a four-year college,” Venger said. “I want to keep my options open and figure out what makes the most sense for me.”
She’s also thinking about what kind of career she might want and how her college choice could support those goals. For now, she’s focused on doing well in school and keeping as many opportunities available as possible.
Many students feel pressure to have everything figured out but are learning that it’s okay to not have a perfect plan yet. Whether students choose a four-year, community college, tradeschool, work, or another path, everyone’s journey will look different.
“Everyone has their own timeline,” Tzour warmly assures. “You don’t have to have everything planned out right away. It’s just about finding what’s right for you.”
